Stoenescu, Stefan and Stanescu, Gabriel, eds.  Timpul Rana Sangeranda: Poeti Romani in Lumea Noua,

Bucharest

, Criterion Publishing, 2006, 474 pp.  ISBN 973-8700-1-7, .00

This timely Romanian-language anthology prefaced by Stoenescu, focuses on the writings, with bibliographical/critical sources, of 36 Romanian poets (30 in the

United States

, 6 in

Canada

) who settled in
North America
in the 1950s to the 1980s, when

Romania

was under communist rule, and in the 1990s post-communist period. All of the poets (16 women, 20 men, including nine published posthumously) graduated from Romanian universities before immigrating. They range in age from their thirties to their eighties, but the majority are in their fifties and sixties. Many lost their professional careers in their new homes, but all published poetry both before and after immigration (some with English translations).

The poems selected for this volume preserve the richness, freshness and purity of the Romanian language, expressed via different genres and by addressing numerous topics: Romanian ethnic pride and religious belief, nostalgic feelings for native places, parents and friends left behind, personal experiences, aspirations, dreams, philosophical reflections, and varied perceptions of America. Some express sadness and disappointments in adjusting to the new countrys realities. The poets are not arranged alphabetically; their place in the book is based on their importance in the Romanian canon, with established poets leading off and emerging poets following, regardless of past or present political orientation. This volume is useful to public, special and academic libraries with Romanian collections.

n revista MULTICULTURAL REVIEW, n fascicola din Prim?vara anului 2007, la pagina 23, a ap?rut sub genericul MISCELANEEA recenzia la volumul Timpul   Ran? Sngernd?: Poe?i Romni n Lumea Nou? sub semn?tura distinsului autor Vladimir F. Wertsman (n?scut n 1929 n Romnia), specialist reputat n studii etnologice ?i de biblioteconomie. ?i ordonatoare, fine?e selectiv?

Stoenescu, ?tefan ?i St?nescu, Gabriel, ngrijitorii volumului Timpul Ran? Sngernd?: Poe?i Romni din Lumea Nou?, Bucure?ti, Criterion Publishing, 2006,  474 p.  ISBN 973 8700 1 7   $ 30.00

Aceast? binevenit? antologie n limba romn? prefa?at? de Stoenescu, se concentreaz? asupra scrierilor, nso?ite de sursele lor bibliografice ?i critice, a 36 poe?i romni (30 din Statele Unite, 6 din Canada) care s-au stabilit n America de Nord ntre anii 1950 ?i 1980, cnd Romnia se afla sub regim comunist , ?i n anii 1990 n perioada postcomunist?. To?i poe?ii (16 femei ?i 20 b?rba?i, inclusiv nou? publica?i postum) au absolvit universit??i romne?ti nainte de a pleca din ?ar?. Sub raportul vrstei ei se situeaz? ntre treizeci ?i optzeci de ani, majoritatea ns? formnd-o cei de cincizeci ?i ?aizeci de ani. Mul?i dintre ei  s-au v?zut nevoi?i s?-?i abandoneze cariera n noile lor condi?ii, to?i ns? au publicat poesie att nainte ct ?i dup? p?r?sirea ??rii de origine (uneori nso?it? de traduceri n englez?).
